Cheyney was 12 years old and in the 7th grade in the Summer of 1983. He played "the Clarinet .. and played baseball for 4 years ... liked to play Q*Bert, Popeye, Sinistar, Tutankham, Jungle Hunt ... had gotten 247,000 on Joust." That is no small feat for those who know Joust.

None of his favorites video games were on his Starcade show but as he said on his Tryout sheet, "I think I play very good at most games" ... and he WAS 'good at most games'. He scored 1,200 points more than his opponent Tommy on the first game they played Arabian (chosen by his opponent) and 9,525 on the second game Black Widow (chosen by Cheyney). His oponent chose Star Wars as the 3rd game they played, a high scoring game ... he outscored Cheyney on the game but it wasn't enough to catch Cheyney who won the overall competition by over 10,000 points.

"I would like to win prizes ..." that's what Cheyney wrote on his Tryout sheet, his wish was granted. He played the Name the Game (got 3 out of 4 right and won Scisys Chess), was the Overall Winner (Aquarius Computer System) and won the Grand Prize (Zoo Keeper video arcade game). It was quite a feat.

In 2004 we got an email from Cheyney ... "... currently I am living at Post Office Box ... Nevada. I am currently traveling around Asia, backpacking throughout many countries." In 2014 we got another email from Cheyney saying, "Hiya- I still use my Compaq computer (the Aquarius he won) every day, titlehough the 32 kb of RAM isn't enough to load most data from my floppy discs. Ahem." And what happened to the other prizes he won, "all of my stuff is long since passed on to others. I do still play pinball on occasion. But mostly my hobby today is DISC GOLF. I won $880 hitting a hole-in-one last weekend. Hope all's well. C"

I guess that means the Zoo Keeper game is gone. Oh well...

In case you didn't notice, we changed Cheyney's last name from Stein to Steininger at his request - All of his paperwork says Stein - My guess is that Stein is his show biz name! Makes sense, easier to remember ... mostly, we just know him as Cheyney...
