Peter really wanted to be on Starcade! when he was 12. He sent 4 postcards in February 1983. We were impressed by his tenaciousness and in March 1983 we invited him to be in the studio audience. He responded by saying, in short, "thanks, but no thanks. I want to be a contestant." So we gave in and in May 1983 we invited him to audition for shows we were taping in July 1983. He accepted.
As Peter had predicted, he "was a very good contestant" and appeared on two Starcade! shows. He won the competition on his first show and played for a Buck Rogers video arcade game, losing by a mere 800 points. We invited him back for a Starcade! championship show. He won that also.
The Grand Prize on that show (which Peter won) was a trip to Hawaii ... we substituted a Star Wars video arcade game. At 12 Peter wanted to be on Starcade! and win a video arcade game. He did both.
In 2006 when he checked in, he told us he "kept the Star Wars game for 5 years and then cashed out but his Starcade! memories linger."
Peter earned an MBA and took his video game passion to Electronic Arts, one of the largest video game manufacturers. Today he works for a new company owned by the founder of EA called Digital Chocolate with a focus on mobile video games.
As far as his Starcade! experience, Peter says, "The experience was an amazing one, especially as a 13 year old that loved arcade games so much! I certainly had a lot of ‘instant’ friends after winning the Star Wars arcade game! It’s been a blast taking a trip down memory lane."

Because Peter was the overall winner of his show, we invited him back to compete against 3 other Winners. We called these shows Invitationals. Invitationals were formatted differently:
