• Tony LaVigna
    SHOW #71 & #73 Invitational
    taped: 7/21/1983 & 7/28/1983
Tony was 15, in the 10th grade, an unassuming kind of guy ... he knew what he was good at and not afraid to tell you. When the show started, he told Host Geoff Edwards, he was good at Gyruss, Robotron ... he couldn't remember the others. Turns out one of them -- Star Wars -- was among the games on the set. He answered the second question right and selected Star Wars as the game he wanted to play. During the pre-game interview he revealed his high score on the game was "a million something". And, as they say, the rest is history. Tony scored 23,293 points, his opponent scored 21,660 - a difference of 1,633, not a lot of points by Star Wars standards.

His opponent Robert Castro selected the first game Motorace USA and outscored Tony by 400 points, a lot on the low scoring Motorace USA. Robert also selected Tac Scan, the last game they played. There was 600 points between their scores - Tony 16,400 - Robert 15,800. It was the game Star Wars that decided the competition!

In 2009 when he checked in Tony said, "I would like to thank the producers of the show and let them know that Starcade was an Awesome idea which was many years ahead of its time. It gave inner city kids like me a degree of hope and an opportunity to compete at a level which only a television game show could do. After playing on your show it gave me the confidence and motivation to always proceed with my life in a progressive, positive forward moving direction."

"The 80's video game revolution made a profound impact on society and the people that were lucky enough to grow up during this era. Playing video games at the time was practically a sport and tournaments were everywhere. You would be hard pressed to find anything like that in an arcade today. That is if you could find an arcade today. You have my support. ... Thank You for the fond memories, Tony"

Tony, thanks for the good words and the positive thoughts you have about Starcade! It only proves how magical the show really is!
TONY'S OPPONENT: Robert Castro has not checked in.
