• Owen Steen
    SHOW #100
    taped: 12/14/1983
Owen's show was all about ONE game - M.A.C.H. 3. Owen was 19. His opponent William Franier was 22. They were both truly great video game players. They had the same score on game 2 Cosmic Chasm and William took game 3 MegaZone by 470 points - a tight game EXCEPT for game 1. Owen scored 26,600 points to William's 8,300 on game 1 M.A.C.H. 3 and there was just no way William could catch up.

Maybe it all came down to that first question ... Owen answered it and HE picked M.A.C.H. 3 as the first game to play. STARCADE! was all about the games and strategy.

Owen played Pole Position II for the Grand Prize but came up short 691 points and did not win the Seeburg Jukebox.

In his bio for the show, Owen described his game playing ability as "awesome". He was right about that. He also said, "...I would like to major in Media Broadcasting (in college) to someday be a Director or a Producer of a television show like STARCADE! or a prime time TV show ... I'm currently employed as a Video Technician to do minor repairs on home video equipment such as VCR's, cameras and video disc."

"When not working, I hit the arcades. Whenever my friends are looking for me, they will find me at one of the 7 local video arcades. I spend at least 4 or 5 hours a day and can last with only 5 dollars a day. Some people call me a video junkie or videoholic. I love video games ... when I go home from the arcades, I practice with my Atari 5200, my Colecovision or my Intellivision ... my favorite video games are Track & Field, M.A.C.H.3, Cliff Hanger, Pole Position II and Elevator Action."

In 2005 Owen checked in to tell us, "I am currently residing in Folsom, California ... I am happily married to my high school sweetheart since the 10th grade. In fact, she was with me during the tryouts and live taping of the show. We will be married for 15 official years as of September 1, 2005. We have a 13 year old daughter who enjoys video games as well. A few years after the show, I was accepted into the Sacramento Sheriff's Academy and became a Deputy Sheriff. I later transferred to Contra Costa and became a Deputy Marshal for about 5 years. During that time, I went to school to earn my degree in business. I am no longer in law enforcement and I have been in finance for over 8 years. I am currently an Equity Analyst for an emerging communications company in the Bay Area. I am still a big fan of video games and I haven't really slowed down."

Thanks, Owen ... bet you're still an awesome video game player.
OWEN'S OPPONENT: William Franier has not checked in.
