Marcelo was a truly great player. He has the unique distinction of being on 3 Starcade! episodes. He competed on 2 of these episodes. On the 3rd episode we invited him back as a expert player to play the laser game Cliff Hanger from beginning to end. He was introduced at the beginning of the show and played on-camera briefly. The show continued while he played off-camera and we rejoined him at the end of the show to see the conclusion of Cliff Hanger. Marcelo played the game without a hitch. Quite a player! That special Cliff Hanger Only show was Starcade! episode #103 with contestants Andrew Garcia and Mark Walsh. See Episode #103 in Episodes.

On his first show Marcelo annihilated his opponent - Dorian Laviene on the game Star Trek and recovery for Dorian was impossible ... Marcelo won the video arcade game Stern's Journey and was invited back for an Invitational Show to compete against another champion, Jonah Colman. The game was Dragon's Lair, only Dragon's Lair and it was close ... with Jonah winning the competition by only 313 points. When the show was over, one thing led to another and we discovered Marcelo was a great Cliff Hanger player ... which led to us asking him to come back to play Cliff Hanger to the end - for all those Starcaders out there who had never reach the end. He did not disappoint us.

In 1983 Marcelo (aka George) had his own scuba diving business, was taking flying lessons and was a Computer Engineer. According to the short bio he wrote in '83, he "loved backpacking, women and game shows. I live on a ... small yacht ... for 2 years. I had to cancel a rafting trip ... for this show. But it was worth it." His favorite games were Super Pac Man, Joust and Popeye.

In 2006 Marcelo checked in to tell us ..."Wow, this brings back memories...I am married (9 years so far) and I have 6 year old twin girls ... I work part time at US Airways ... in my garage I have a video game with 39 games in it. What games? Well, ALL the classics including MANY that were on your shows - Ms Pac Man, Pac Man, Gyruss, Pengo, Mr Do, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, Donkey Kong Jr, Galaga, Space Invaders, Jr Pac Man, Phoenix, Frogger, Super Cobra, Time Pilot, Xevius, Mappy, Burger Time.. and many more. Going to my garage now reminds me of Starcade."

You are one lucky guy, Marcelo, on all fronts.
MARCELO'S OPPONENT: Dorian Laviene has not checked in.
